I have been to several parties lately and have taken cakes made from my Hungarian Great-Grandmother's recipe. Everyone has raved about it and wanted the recipe. This I can't do as I was sworn to secrecy by my mother's mother in the 1960's before she died. I have always been afraid to break this vow because my Grandmother may have put a Gypsy curse on me and I am very superstitious. As you may know, Gypsy curses are perhaps the best known of all curses, exactly why is not known, but it probably stems from gypsy fortune telling of many years ago and one of the most famous of all gypsy curses is: "May you wander over the face of the earth forever, never sleep twice in the same bed, never drink water twice from the same well and never cross the same river twice in a year". I almost gave someone the recipe in the early 1970's and suddenly I found myself living in New York.
